Frank Sapienza - More Pictures
Picture taken in 1918
"Photo was taken in 1918 in Termini Imerese, Sicily. My father was given a leave from France during World War I, because his two year old son, Delfino, passed away from a mastoid infection. It was a year of sadness, especially for my dear beautiful Mom. Her father and a sister who lived in Pittsburgh died that year from the flu which was widespread during that
epidemic year. Mourning in black dress, I can sense the sadness in my Mom's angelical face. Notice how she dressed my two brothers, Tom and Louis, in their suits and crocheted collars that were made by my grandmother. Of the four in the photo, Louis is still living at the age of 85."
