This is a 1915 picture of my grandmother, Providenza Russo Lamantia
(1888-1933). It was taken in 1915 at Crescent Park Amusement Park in East Providence, Rhode Island. The
woman on the left is Anna Mafise and the little boy is her son. The woman
in the middle is Providenza Russo who is the author of the notebook pages
that you will see in the following pages. The younger woman to the right of
Providenza is my aunt Anna Lamantia (1903-1968) who passed down to me some stories about
Termini-Imerese told to her by her grandmother Carmella Corso
Russo(1857-1940). Carmella is said to have taken Anna Mafise with her from
Termini-Imerese where she was apparently orphaned. They were probably
related but exactly how is unknown.
