Subject: Re: Address
Message: I recently learned that one of my mother's 2nd cousins visited Termini in the
summer of 1998 or 1997 (with some friends from Minn MN who speak fairly good
Termini dialect). They stopped in at the civil offices while there.
He had some info on names and approximate birth dates of certain ancestors
and told them he wanted to find out more about them (date of marriage, death,
etc.) and of others who were related to them (other siblings of his
grandfather, etc.). He said the clerks treated him ' like a long lost cousin
.' However, he has never heard back from them.
I don't know if he paid them any money in advance, or what kind of official
paper work he filled out (if any) - I'll find out more when I see him in a
few months

Message: My ggg grandfather was FRANCESCO CORSO born 4 july 1862 in Termini Imerese.
I believe he immigrated about 1901 to the SYRACUSE,ONANDAGO,NY area.
His wife was MARIA PUSATERI( various spellings)CORSO who married Francesco
about 1887. She was born one of the following dates: 2 Feb 1871, or feb
1873 or 1863... Most likely in Feb of 1863.
Maria came to America on the ship GUILIA TRIESTI in 1909 I believe and
brought 4 of her children with her... Guiseppa,Salvatore, Antonina, and
Angela.. She had other children including my gg grandmother Flavia
"Florence" corso who arrived earlier.
I beleive my MARIAS parents were AUGUSTINO PUSATERI and FLAVIA MANTIA
I think FRANCESCOS parents were SALVATORE CORSO and VINCENZIA CHIARMONDI.
Maria had a brother SALVATORE"SAM??" PUSATERI who settled in the midwest-
in or near Chicago...
My gg grandmother Flavia Florence Corso married a MICHAEL LOBELLO -this was
an arranged marriage made while she was still in sicily and michael was in
the US. Micahel was born 1882 in MESSINA . His parents were PIETRO LOBELLO
born 1858 and Dorotea Thedora DELISEA or De LISI LOBELLO born 1847. They
arrived in the Us around 1882 and settled in Syracuse as well...

Message: Hi, Welcome to the list. I don't have any matching family members with
yours. But my ancesters were John Bova born 1872 and Rosa LaScola born
1875. They were married in Syracuse in 1891. Rosa La Scola came to the
US in 1885 with her parents. They both came from Termini Imerese and
settled in Syracuse, Onondaga Co, NY. I was wondering if either of these
names meant anything to you. They lived on Marcellus St in Syracuse.
Usually but not always, neighbor in the old country would move to the
same neighborhood in the US.

Subject: Re: Mantia connection?
Message: I've got Lobello's and La Mantia's in my family background. I don't have
time to get into it now, but I'll write more this weekend if you're
interested.
I am the grandson of John J Valenty and Francesca (Arrigo) Valenty, both
born in TI in the late 1800's. Name was originally spelled Volante, was
changed to Valenti, then Valenty. My Grandpa was best friends with Phillip
La Mantia (I believe it was spelled "Mantia" in TI), but was changed to La
Mantia somewhere along the line.
The LaMantia's settled in western PA in the early 1900's.
My great aunt was married to a John Lobello from Pittsburgh PA

Message: Hi Rick ( and everyone): I known that my relatives: Maria Pusateri and Her
husband Francesco Corso knew someone in the Syracuse/Oswego area and I think
they were related to those people .. But I havent found out who these people
were- I believe they "sponsered " someone in Marias family. So they could
have possibly been neighbors
Francesco and Maria lived in 1914- 210 Seneca St, Syracuse,NY
in 1920-413 Tioga St, Syracuse,Ny and Francesco either rented or owned a grocery type stor on the corners of
"shgonard St and Oswego St" in Syracuse.
Two of their children married people from Messina:

and their other children married:
Vincenzia "Jenny" married a Joseph Battaglia/Beatty( changed his Italian name)
Augustino"August" married a Catherine RUSSO

Message: John Bova was living at 319 Marcellus St when he died May 2 1925.
Rosa LaScolla Bova was still living there when she died Feb 9 1964.
Before they were married, he lived at 513 N West St and she lived at
511 N West St. John was a huckster (fruit seller) at a family business
at 500 Pearl St in 1922 and at 303 Fulton St in 1926.
Her parents were Ignazio LaScola and Santina Puecia. At the time of
Ignazio death, Oct 18,1916, they lived at 205 Niagara St. Santina place
of residence when she died was 319 Marcellus St (home of her daughter).
Her mother maiden name (who never came to this country) was Cosentina.
Same as your Angel Corso's Husband.
They were buried in Assumption Cemetery Court Street, Syracuse.
Looking at a map of Syracuse West street is 1 block over from Marcellus.
And Marcellus crosses Seneca St then Oswego then Tioga and then Niagara.
Shonnard St is 5 blocks down.
So it seems they were from the same neighborhood in Syracuse. But who
knows if they knew each other in Syracuse or Italy.
